SoPas Vintage Modern
This project in South Pasadena is a 1960’s era apartment gone condominium, which required updates and a more modern aesthetic for a single woman on a budget. The vintage building was being considered for historic landmark status and the Home Owner Association had stringent mandates for exterior changes, which included a new energy efficient window
- The galley-style kitchen was cramped and outdated. Construction changes include replacing windows, removing a wall and soffit, as well as updating all utilities
- An heirloom collection of Bauer Ware dishes inspired the bold use of color in the design which features open shelves, a contemporary industrial-type design, easy to maintain surfaces and a chalkboard-paint wall to feature art and flights of fancy
- Custom distressed laminate cabinets; quartz counters, concrete and porcelain tiles were selected for their beauty, durability and ease of maintenance. An electric towel warmer, mirrored medicine cabinets, glass tile, and decorative lighting complete the streamlined, modern look
- The original bathroom featured a cast iron tub, toilet and corner stall shower utilizing a main plumbing wall. Reconfiguring the order of the fixtures allowed the newly renovated space to feature a new, freestanding tub and an expanded shower.
- A new stackable washer and dryer were added to create a new, private laundry area from a hall closet.
